The OG MS-20 was known for its ability to sound gritty, thanks to weighty, drivable oscillators and raspy resonant filters. And that’s before we even get to unofficial versions… Since then Korg has released multiple hardware iterations, including desktop and full-sized reissues, all of which come on top of Korg’s own software MS-20, which has been on the market since the early ’00s. Korg’s own hardware reissue, the MS-20 mini, was one of the first significant synths of the affordable analogue revival. Notably, Aturia has made the version upgrades free to existing owners. Pigments has come far from its first version, which itself was packed with attractive capabilities. In late 2021 we were treated to a far-from-insubstantial 3.5 release, and a year later the most recent, version 4, was made available.
